It’s that time again…… when folks reflect on their goals for the upcoming year. I have already read quite a few websites detailing plans for weight loss, plans for healthier eating, plans to write more, walk more, etc.
2012 is almost here! Only 14 days and bang…….what are your upcoming plans? I have a few ideas, well…three. Three goals. Let’s see how I do.
1. BYOB (Bake Your Own Bread) will be hosted by Girlichef in 2012. Cathy was the host in 2011and now the bread basket is being passed to Heather. She’s always a good hostess and is very kind to slow-witted bread novices like me, always helpful. It’s a year of baking your own breads, crackers, cakes, you name it….all from scratch. I wrote about that challenge HERE
Ladies who have been very helpful to me with “bread advice” will be pleased to know my practice with yeast has rewarded us recently. You were all correct – practice, practice and practice some more! Thanks to my sister-in-law Barb, Natashya, Allyson and Heather.
2. I signed up for the 2012 Reading Challenge hosted by Brighton Blogger at Book After Book.
I already participate in a reading challenge at Goodreads but I have been a follower of Brighton’s for a while. In 2011 she was sponsoring the Italy in Reading Challenge. For 2012 we don’t have a set topic – just read what you like and join in the discussions and reviews. Sometimes you can win a prize – how exciting!!
3. Genealogy. I’m been a grave/ancestor tracker since I was 17 years old. I’m going to start up again with the Elliot family as my primary objective and then (maybe) work on brick walls with Van Ripers and Daltons. Previously I have done extensive work on the following lines:
Joseph Dalton and Jane Whitman – From Cumberland County England to Upland Pennsylvania
James Pierce and Edna Hulmes - Chester Pennsylvania (Plus Murder Trial)
For anyone out there interested in genealogy, if you didn’t know about Find-a-Grave, check it out! Here’s my link. You can submit your grave stone photos and even ask for a lookup from a local volunteer.
Anyone who comes across my site and had/has family in the Delaware County Pennsylvania area, I’d be pleased to hear from you. I’m always willing to share my research.
This year – watch out. I am determined! I would be interested to know what some of you have planned for the upcoming year. Comments are open and I would like to hear about your goals.

I have to live through Christmas before I can think of resolutions....so I admire your foresight. I make a lot of yeast breads, too, and my buns and rolls are never identifiable as precisely what they are. I tell the kids to suck it up and eat them anyway. After all, what's a son for if not to be a human Hoover?
Thrilled to see you added your comment gadget for this post. I so enjoy reading; even if I neglect emailing you.
My lapop suffered a BAD virus, si teh past 2 weeks I had to go downstairs to my PC; stairs are NOT my best friend.
I find I am too old to make resolutions anymore; I do the best I can and hope for the best. Arthritis is my best /bad friend; always at my side.
I have been making my own bread using the ABM to do the work for the past few years. Really interested in this BYOB (Bake Your Own Bread) Going to check this out; must be a great spot to get new recipes. My son bought me the book Artisan Bread for the Bread Machine; it is full of goodies
Thiking of you; wishing you a wonderful pre Christmas week.
Your friend in Canada,
Rita
I'm glad you added the comment box too. Everyone should at least try their own hand at bread making (even if the result is malformed). :) I love the imperfections in homemade!
Where's Cumberland County in England? *wanders off to Wiki*
