A few days away from home

Thank you Joanna for following my blog!

We took a few days off this past week to drive to New Port Richey and stay 2 nights.

Other than the 9 year old ballerinas gathered at our hotel, who shrieked in such high pitched tones that I think I am deaf in one ear....the entire trip went well.

Here are some photos............

This golf place was next to the hotel

The gators looked so cold....

We drove to Tarpon Springs and ate at Hellas........

Where we had Saganaki...which means "little frying pan" in Greek. Gus, our waiter, brought it out and set fire to it. Everyone in our surrounding area yelled Opa! when the flames ignited...it was very cool.

My meal was a combo of broiled shrimp, scallops and catch of the day (I don't remember which fish it was)....served with green beans and tomatoes, potato wedges, rice and cantaloupe.

Doug had grouper with caramelized red onion and the same sides I did....

There was a bakery attached to this restaurant with more delicious breads and sweets than you could dream of...behold just a few of the chocolate treats...

They even had baklava cheesecake!

After such an enormous amount of dinner we just could not indulge...and probably a good thing we didn't.

I have some beautiful photos of shrimp dish I made....but I'll wait to tell you about the results. I am uploading photos and the recipe.

Stay tuned!

And here he is again...cold and cranky.........

  2. You are killing me with the baklava cheesecake:D Baklava is one of my FAVORITE things in this world. I can't imagine how delicious it would be on a cheesecake.

Both of your dinners look delicious and YES those gators do look cold.
Sounds like you two are having a fun time tooling around FL on the bike.

  8. And thank you for the mention! I used to work in a restaurant that served saganaki and it was so popular! Not for us though, since we'd end up wearing tons of liquor and grease spatters on our clothes by the end of the night!

  9. That Greek restaurant was so neon-y that your food was glowing!

P.S. I'd take shriek-y 9 year olds over teenagers ANY DAY!

  11. It really sounds like a successful getaway. That is a great shot of the alligators and I'm going to pretend I didn't see all those gorgeous cakes and pastry. I stopped by to say hello and stayed longer than I intended. I really like your blog and will be back often.
