Gumbo-licious!

Gumbo can be an easy and comforting meal. It's sloppy, it's filling and when you are not in the mood for fancy - this does the trick.

Grab your ingredients...........okra, onion, celery, tomato, sliced peppers.....

Locally produced sausage....Fason brand produced in Quincy, Florida.

Cut it up, fry it and drain grease off...........

Take the sliced up veggies..........

Fry them up..........

Melt some butter and add veggies, fry up shrimp........

Slice okra and dust it in cornmeal so you can fry it up, getting crispy coating.

The fried okra makes a great topping.........

Old Brown Dog Ale went exceptionally well with this meal............

Good simple food.

  1. I've only made gumbo once, a duck gumbo from Emril. Yours looks soul warming.

Thank you Mary - It was quite simple and worth the effort (it was actually little effort) and good chow.

Dave - I love okra and funny thing is, I didn't have it until I moved to the south!

  5. You can't beat soup with sausage. We have some great local meat markets that make many excellent sausages.

  10. Janel - Sausage, or bacon, makes a great addition or just about any stew or soup based meal. Buying locally is good too.

    Thank you Cajun Chef Ryan!

Martha = Oh I totally, agree - let's hear it for the last of the cold!

Drick - The okra makes a nice crunchy topping...love it. You have some great shrimp recipes on your site.....I will be borrowing this summer.

  14. I have yet to try gumbo.. i have to get over my fear of okra! I have only seen it on tv, but they keep using words like "slimy" and "mucous". One day!

  15. Cathy - let me know when you make it. Did you take the bike course yet? Curious....

Yea! MonicaJane! I will hop on over to your blog to check it out :-)

Vanilla - Thank you. That means alot!

Natashya, yeah ok, that's a fair cop! I never ate okra until I moved to the south and yes, it has potential to be slimy but if you use fresh okra, and fry with the cornmeal, it's great. No slime.
