In my kitchen for the month of May

What a crazy couple of days we have had moving furniture and boxing household goods. I told our son it was as if we were plunged into a busy, physically active nonstop warehouse job. We ache from carrying things and many many trips up and down the stairs.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my last post about the stovetop meals and my lost wallet.  Now that we are settled in the RV I will be able to visit and post again.  The kitchen demolition started this morning so I will be glad to see what it looks like later this week when we return to do laundry.

Here's what I brought for the In My Kitchen event at Sherry's Pickings and Weekend Cooking.

From the Indian market in Tallahassee I have these pantry staples.  They were packed for this trip.

Fresh limes, dates and a chocolate treat for afternoon coffee.

Kiwi fruits and fresh green beans - they have the best produce there.  If you are in the Tallahassee area this is a good place to get produce.

The old camp stove was problematic but this new one is great. Here it is set up on the camp kitchen. Big and shiny red.

Instead of three burners I have two large burners - so much better for those large skillets.

This cookbook has been languishing on a shelf for a while and it now lives in the RV.

Our view at the campsite.  We are at Three Rivers State Park for a few days and then we will find another place to stay.  I'm glad we aren't home to hear all that banging and destruction! This is peaceful.

  1. I love Indian food , chocolate, and Kiwi's! I love green beans too but when I make them I fry them in a skillet until very brown, so good!

I'm wanting a new grill but I'm trying to decide how to redo our back yard and get the grill last.

I got the Kindle of that cookbook after reading about it. It looks really good and I love one pot recipes!

That us a gorgeous view of the water!

  2. that lake/river? looks so peaceful and serene. how lovely to be there. sorry but i have to laugh and i know i've said it before but kiwis are flightless birds:-) this is one time you really need to add the 'fruit' word on the end. unlike tuna fish which is a redundancy. oops sorry. my librarian instincts are taking over... thanks muchly for joining in IMK, and see you next month! cheers

    2. sorry to be picky but it always makes me laugh when people say just 'kiwi' for the fruit. i know it has become common to say it ...

  3. Having an alternate place to live and COOK is ideal when remodeling a kitchen. Your location looks idyllic too.

    1. Mae, it always makes me want a lake house. I'm glad we have a place to live temporarily though, especially during the upheaval at home.

  4. When you go back to do laundry, it will be a much more dramatic reveal than if you were there every day, watching the progress. How fun! That camp stove looks great, as does your camp spot. What a great view, and a great way to make lemonade out of remodel lemons. I bet Loki is enjoying the adventure, too!

    1. Stacy, the first trip was interesting seeing everything ripped out. I got photos! Lki is adapting well, he's a great camper and a sweet dog (to us).

  5. We have an ancient Coleman camp stove, but stopped using it when we got our Weber grill (and use the RV stove inside). I might have to think about getting a new Coleman for when we want to fix messy things like bacon, sauted onions, etc. I love that it has two big burners. Oooh, it'd also be good when I want to boil water for pasta or potatoes. Steam in an RV is a no-no. Enjoy your campsite. It looks very peaceful!

    1. Les, we also have an older Coleman stove and it did the jb but this one is soooo much nicer. Accomodates large pots easily.

  6. Exciting! My kitchen could do with a makeover but I can live with it for now. I put off doing our floors forever but had them done last summer during lockdown and it wasn't as bad as I had thought.
Indian food is the best. That is what I miss most during our lockdown, poking in ethnic neighbourhoods, we have so many in Toronto.

  8. I love your outdoor kitchen, and the view! We were NPS volunteers for a year, RV kitchen cooking is challenging and fun, or funny, depending how dinner turned out! Can't wait to see the remodel...

    1. BethFR - so true! We wen home only once so far. So many strangers milling about tearing things up and doing electrical work. It will be nice to be home again although I am loving the lake view.
