This week in review! BBQ, Birthday Cake, Tattoo Book, Cocktails!

The scoop this week?

My friends at work surprised me with a cake for my birthday - wow! Another friend brought me chocolate from Rocky Mountain candies when she was in Colorado.

We made Manhattans………..posted at Cocktail Puppy

Doug is featured in a book!

My man is published…no, not a writer….an inked man gracing the pages titled The Hall of Fame in artist Anne Stokes’ upcoming book, Stoked: The Art of Anne Stokes Tattooed. Check it out HERE

Doug and his Woodland Guardian tattoo are highlighted in Anne Stokes soon to be released book. The artist, Litos Pinto owner of Forbidden Images is also in the book. If you are so inclined to have a very nice, well done tat…make the trip to New Port Richey because Litos is the man when it comes to professional ink work.

For the stages of this ink being done (three separate trips) check it out HERE

This past weekend we rode 285 miles in the quest for lunch. The tantalizing aroma of backyard BBQ wafted over us and through the helmets – had to have BBQ! So, in Eufaula Alabama we noticed a sign claiming Best Butts in Alabama ! We did a U-turn and landed at Phil’s BBQ: Best Butts in Alabama

So true. It was the most tender sliced pork I have ever eaten. Ever. We will make that ride again just for a plate of that BBQ pork. It was a good ride too. We started out at 9:30 a.m. and stopped for lunch at 1:00. Got home at 4:00 p.m. Going over the bridge from Georgia to Alabama was one of the prettiest sights I’ve seen. The bridge spans Walter George Lake ….deep blue waters with nary a ripple but for the occasional boat drifting lazily past, fishing rods hanging off the side.

What a week! And we are ending it off a great patio birthday bash of steamed shrimp, margaritas, black beans and rice, chips and queso.

Life is good!

  1. I'm so glad to hear that you had a wonderful birthday! I have heard that Phil's in Alabama is the very best in BBQ. I think (if it's the same place) they won best of BBQ at Memphis in May every year. Glad to hear you're doing great. Have a good weekend!

  3. Thanks Kim - I had not heard they won prizes for the BBQ but oh my, I can't describe how tender it was. We'll be heading back that way again.

Fresh Garden - Thank you so much!

  4. OMG, Pierce, you will not believe this but I have been through Eufala Alabama and eaten at Phil's - TWICE!!! It was on a road trip from Atlanta to Destin Florida in 2004! It was awesome BBQ and my first real southern BBQ experience. I loved it! And the owner came and chatted with us because he was intrigued about the Canadians in the party I was with (i.e. me and a friend of mine...the rest were all from Atlanta). This is so cool!

When was your birthday??? I missed it, obviously! The cake looks amazing!

Doug's tattoo is amazing! I love all of the details. You need to come up here for some BBQ. There's an award-winning place just miles from my house. :)
