Havana is the home of Oscar's Pizza

We live fairly close to Havana which is situated in north Florida, roughly a half hour drive from the Georgia line. When people hear we are in Florida I think they are picturing palm trees, beaches and a view of the ocean. While we are close to the shore, (or the beach as everyone says down here), and only travel 40 minutes to the Gulf of Mexico...it's nothing at all like you see in travel brochures. It's greener, has more hills, loads of pine trees and I think must be more humid than south Florida.

Havana has some nice antique shops lining Main street as well as the surrounding side streets. It's fun to stroll through the shops and find things you may have seen in your grandparents' home. Brings back memories. You can also pick up some good furniture...if you are into the old wood and antique furniture decor.

In addition to the shops you have a choice of many local eateries which dish out mighty fine food. I will take a local joint over a chain any old time. We have a couple of favorites but today I would like to tell you about Oscar's Pizza.

This is the courtyard where you can enjoy your pizza, pasta, sandwich and a glass of sweet iced tea or a glass of wine.

They have fantastic pizza and homemade chocolate cake.

I feel as if I am gaining weight just looking at this.

As I mentioned, there are antique shops and other little local eateries packed into a small downtown area. This large house was actually moved to the location and has been fixed up nicely. I'll bet it's super expensive to have an old farmhouse moved. It would cool to fix it up as you wanted though with modern kitchen appliances, polish the wooden floors, etc.

Coming up I have a few wine reviews, book talk and a some updates. I hope you are well, happy and have enjoyed your summer!

  1. Hi Tina!

Whenever I travel I always ask the local people where they would eat. Havana sounds nice. Actually the climate sounds like PA, sometimes, lol...Not now though. It's so chilly in the mornings it's rather upsetting.

Anyway, I only mention it because you know here:)

The pizza sounds good, I'm not much of a pizza "gal" but, that chocolate cake, oh my heavens!

    Thanks for sharing, Tina...

  4. Isn't it funny, the shore vs beach lingo? I love region phrases. We say beach out west, but my good friend in PA always says shore.
The town looks lovely. so does the cake.
