At work today I actually fell asleep at my desk. It couldn’t have been for more than 5 minutes but I just couldn’t help myself. One minute I am staring blankly at the computer trying to decipher what I’m looking at and then…..bam. This is the toll of sharing a bottle of wine, a great dinner, cheese course and dessert and THEN going inside and watching two episodes of The Walking Dead last night.
Hauling ourselves to bed too late and still getting up at 5:45 may have been part of the reason for excess sleepiness. Totally worth it though! Yesterday was Doug’s birthday and we celebrated. Birthdays are an excuse to eat and drink what you want, right?
Because I didn’t want to be a total dork during dinner I did not get any photos. Doug grilled two beautiful filets getting a good char on the meat. We had mashed potatoes, fresh asparagus and a bottle of Saint-Émilion. Can’t go wrong with French wine, one of our favorites.
Dinner was followed by warm yeast rolls served with a goat Brie and a triple cream mushroom cheese. After polishing off the wine we sat on the patio, the colored lights were plugged in and we watched it get dark, listening to the owls banter.
After a while Doug made decaf coffee and he had his chocolate Napoleon while I ate half an éclair. Gorgeous in a decadent fashion. All of it was great and perfect for ringing in another birthday. I’m so happy to celebrate another milestone with him and wish we had 50 more years (and be young enough to enjoy them).
Back inside after 9:00 as the mosquitoes were starting to be bothersome. We watched two episodes of Walking Dead, season 5, then went to bed way too late. Pity we had to get up for work the next day.
That was a good day and now it’s back on the wagon of healthy choices food-wise. Only 2 months until Thanksgiving, how scary is that? This year has flown by for me. Early to bed tonight.............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
