Watching, sipping and reading.....

Happy Sunday! It's a nice day to sit outside and visit with folks around the world - the kind of travel we do these days.

Watching / Last night we watched an older movie called National Treasure.  I didn't know there was an alternate ending until I looked over the DVD case.  After the movie Doug found the menu and we watched the first ending shot.  It's only a 2 minute clip and it was fun seeing the way they originally planned it.

We bought The Grand Budapest Hotel as it was another on the list of visually stunning movies.  Great to watch on a large screen.  Haven't seen it yet but maybe next week.

Sipping/ My favorite of the wines I've tried lately remains the Joel Gott Chardonnay but I decided to try something new this week.  This is a Barton and Guestier white Bordeaux and it just didn't rock my world.  Too much of a strong grapefruit taste so, I ended up abandonng the bottle.

Doug tried two new (to him) bourbons and likes them both. Old Forester Original and Russell's Reserve 10 year old.  This is his birthday week and you just have to try new things, right? :-)

In the Kitchen / I am a big fan of hummus so I thought, why not make a sandwich with it.  This is a spinach artichoke and sun dried tomato blend.  Pretty display :-)

Spread this on toast with sliced tomatoes.

A fast and healthy lunch alternative.

Reading / I have had some great luck with Netgalley giving me advanced reader copies of books and have enjoyed most of them.  Finished up the nonfiction challenge hosted at Shellyrae's Book'd Out.

  1. Hummus is _meant_ to be eaten on a sandwich! In Israel plainhummus on a pita, with no other anything at all, is a favorite. You can build it from there. Tomatoes are a great choice.

  2. Congrats on finishing the nonfiction challenge! I haven't done challenges in a while, but am considering doing that one next year. Such interesting categories! Too bad about the white Bordeaux. We went out to dinner last night (still outside dining only)and ordered a bottle of it to go with our seafood. They looked for it for 10-15 minutes before coming back to tell us they were completely out of both white Bordeaux options... we chose a pinot grigio instead. I like hummus sandwiches... sometimes I'll make it in a wrap and throw in whatever vegies we have.

    1. JoAnn, Thanks, I think I could have expanded the book topics to include more on the challenge but I’m happy with it this year.
I’d be happy to get recommendations on a good white Bordeaux if you have any! I’m trying new labels.

  3. My husband and I both enjoy bourbon and will have to give those two a try. I think we've had Old Forester, but I'm not certain.

I love the idea of hummus in a sandwich. I've had it in wraps, but never on bread. Great idea!

    1. Les, there were a few of the Old Forester & he chose Original batch. The prohibition bath was very high in alcohol content. He likes the original.

  7. I still have two books to go to complete my nonfiction challenge. The one I'm reading now is 784 pages! Fortunately, I'm enjoying The Art of Eating very much.

My nephew has a wine shop in Waco, and he's a wine importer, so we are always trying new wines around here. I wouldn't like a grapefruit-y wine either, I think.

My favorite way of visiting these days is from my comfortable seat at my blog every weekend.

    1. Deb, I think I’ll bump it up to the next level of nonfiction next year, IF Shelleyrae hosts again.
I’ll bet it’s nice visiting your nephew’s wine shop!

  8. Vicki, I liked National Treasure but the second one wasn’t nearly as good. We also picked up Allied with Brad Pitt, looking forward to that one.

Welcome and thank you so much for visiting. If I don't answer you here I will get back to you on your blog. Also have had to switch to approving comments due to some SPAM lately. Alas...

It's been a good run...........
