The Kona Brewing Company
Thursday evening we were able to enjoy a Long Board Lager with our steak dinner. The Kona Brewing Company makes this liquid Aloha called Longboard Island Lager. They also produce Pipeline Porter, Fire Rock Pale Ale and others. Their website is here.
It’s worth clicking on just to hear the music. After the music cycles three times you hear the ocean waves lapping at a shoreline. So relaxing.
The food pairing suggestion is herbed chicken but it did stand up well to grilled red meat. Very savory and crisp but not sweet like Newcastle Brown ale. I would like to try the Pipeline Porter but it is a seasonal brew, only available September through March. Just missed it.
Inside the caps you’ll find Hawaiian words and the translation.
The first time we tried this lager was at St. George Island and thought – let’s give it a try. We weren’t a bit disappointed. Good one – let me know if you give it a try….or any of Kona Brewing Company’s ales.
Cheers!

Saw these at Costco and was curious about them. Unfortunately still have a case of Budweiser (please don't judge me!) and wanted to wait until that was gone to try them. I've seen this brewing company in Kona!
ReplyDeleteJoie - of course I wouldn't judge you! Did you tour the brewing plant when you were in Hawaii? That would be so cool.
ReplyDeleteI've not tried these AND (unfortunately) not seen them in a supermarket. Love Newcastle Brown though :o)
ReplyDeletelaquet,
ReplyDeleteOther than American micro-brews, Belgian and British ales are amongst my favorite brews. Old Speckled Hen is probably my favorite British ale, but I do like the Newcastle Brown too.
This lager from Kona is really very good though!
Ah LoSHM "Old Speckled Hen" - yum!! However we are lucky enough to live in the middle of Shepherd Neame country - so spend a lot of time loving Spitfire and Whitstable Bay. Also enjoying Wells' Banana Bread beer at the moment - shall try to get a photo for you today ... shame the Internet doeosn't do smella-vision.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to alert the hubs to this - I think he'd be very interested in trying it. Love that it has food pairing suggestions - why not? Who says that wine is the best dinner complement?
ReplyDeleteJo -That is one of the things about traveling around another country that is great - trying out local ales. We don't get so much variety here unless you consider the imports.
ReplyDeleteWould LOVE to have a picture!
Tangled Noodle - We like wine with meals but occassionaly, it's great to enjoy a beer while you are standing by the grill! Hope your hubby enjoys this one.
