Chicken Vesuvio
All the ingredients are fantatsic. We love garlic. Love artichokes. Chicken. White wine.
The problematic thing here was the color. Yes, the color.
Once the artichokes sat in the white wine, brothy chicken liquid....it made the resulting broth a very vile color. The brain just could not get past the color of greenish stomach bile.
Warning....graphicly green unappealing photo!
Sorry...but that was the absolute truth of this meal. Tasted good. If I were blind we wouldn't have a problem but...I'm not blind. Not yet anyway (that's another story)
My Potluck submission for IHCC...........most times I love Giada....not this recipe...
Even Aja hid from it!

That does look...um..how to put it? Shrek-ish? I'd say at least it tasted good. But I understand that sometimes looks (and aromas) can do fierce damage to an appetite!
ReplyDeleteTaste is what really matters.
ReplyDeleteI agree, taste is what matters.
ReplyDeleteSome food is hard to make pretty.
Charles once accused me of plating cat food - a particularly unappealing looking slow cooker dish that I had made.. but it did taste good!
Love your post! Stuff like that happens; important thing is that it was good; that is what really matter. But I know what you mean; especially when you plan to post about it. I experienced the same thing a few times...grrrr
ReplyDeleteRita
Interesting color! Good for you for still posting it. Sometimes I leave out photos of my uglier foods :)
ReplyDeleteAll the times I've made chicken visuvio, I've never put artichokes in it - maybe I missed that?? Glad it tasted good!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I make spaghetti squash it looks like baby barf, but tastes amazing - maybe that's why my family will never try it because of how it looks!
MM - Funny what the mind does...translating your taste buds!
ReplyDeleteFood Hunter - So true. I had to make soup from the remains though.
Natashya - cat food....hmmmm, but it was good you say :-) We ate this meal, but I probably won't make it again.
Rita - That is true, you learn by unexpected things happenin' in the kitchen!
Meghan - Oh...there have been many photos that haven't made it to public view! But you just had to see this to believe it :-)
Biz - That's hilarious! Maybe Giada adds artichokes if you have never seen them in Vesuvio recipes before. Thanks for the comment!
funny take on a recipe..... now, for your take on spit-pea soup? If you are like me, I will only eat it if blind-folded...
ReplyDeleteTina- I had high hopes for this recipes because it sounds like it would be delicious. Too bad it didn't turn out well. Can't win them all I guess.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the cheese. When I get back to the store I will be sure to talk with someone about what happened and take a big sniff of the cheese before I buy.
I have a recipe for Skillet Chicken Vesvio that I got from Real Simple magazine. It's quite good, but no artichokes.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha ha ha!!! Sounds delicious to me, though :D Happy Holidays to you and your fam, Tina :D
ReplyDeleteI was smiling while reading the post. I am with everyone else, if tastes good, that is all that matters.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you!
Velva
I am glad it tasted good--it sounds really good. Wonder if it could be perked up (or covered up) ;-) with some added colorful ingredients?
ReplyDeleteDrick - Oh yeah, the pea soup looks weird ot me too but I do like that.
ReplyDeleteKim - I would definitely take that cheese back. Morbier is another of the stinky cheeses but...there is a fine line between the aroma being bad and what it ought to smell like,
Lyndsey, next time I will try that, thanks!
Thanks Heather, merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too Velva :-)
Deb - Maybe if I didn't use artichokes. Someone mentioned they don't use them in their version of chicken vesuvio.
I'm sure it was delicious. I have problems with brown foods! I once made a portobello risotto that looked like dirt.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard when you've got to get past the look of something to appreciate the taste - got to close my eyes when I am eating snails (adore them!) and oysters (double yum) ... wait, maybe my weight would prefer me not to get past the look ;o)
ReplyDeletearlene, that must have been displeasing!
ReplyDeletejo - I can look an oyster in the eye and eat that baby!!!
