Starry Night Winery, 2008 Zinfandel (California)
Promised were cherries, hints of spice and pepper. But it was too thick and the high alcohol content overpowered the other tastes. You could actually detect some pepper. Regular price is $18.99 but the World Market sale (plus 10% off 4 bottles of wine) brought it down to $7.99. The lady who knows her wines told us she was a Zin person (but we aren’t) and we thought we’d give it a try. Won’t buy this one again but may try another of Starry Nights wines in the future.

Be happy you bought just 1 bottle; sometimes when it a good deal, we are tempted to get a few.

Wine is such a very personal taste. On the bright side, now you can keep trying different kinds!
ReplyDeleteRita, I know...we have done that before. It's a good deal so we stock up. Fact is, we haven't been overly crazy about zins but try different labels to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks CJ, so true!
Thanks for the review. I hate to be told what I am going to taste. We always like to think up the most extreme aromas when we sniff a wine for the first time and we get quite ridiculous---diesel fumes, diesel fumes from an old metro bus that has been painted day-glo colors, pencil lead, pencil lead shaving from your elementary classroom's manual sharpening. I wonder what we would have sniffed with this zin?
