Whatcha been doing? Random thoughts & photos on gardening, books, movies and Elizabeth

Look. We have a blossom on the strawberry plant.

The lettuce is absolutely thriving despite some heavy storms and excessive rainfall amounts. The tomato seeds we planted in peat pots have sprouted. See, you are meant to prop open the tray after the sprouts appear. A wine cork works for now but I’m thinking we may need a larger prop.

Library Loot: My stack of books is growing for two reasons. One thing that is beyond my control is my place in line for a book. Seems this time I had several available to me all at once.

The other thing is, I have wasted too much time trying to get into A Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. If a book doesn’t grab me right off I persevere…..for a while. This one has had more than its fair shot and I am now on to something I am enjoying much more.

I can’t review this one because I won’t finish it. You have to like at least one character. They are all so self- absorbed, negative and condemning people. It’s a cheerless soap opera and while I tried, and I know some people have liked this book, I am not wasting any more time on it.

Just finished reading Valerie Plame’s novel Blowback.

Here's the current lineup on the table:

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (alias is J.K. Rowling)
Inferno by Dan Brown
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman (on Kindle)
Alice in Zombieland: The White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter

Movies/Netflix: Currently back into the series Justified starring Timothy Olyphant. We liked him in the series Deadwood and he’s perfect for Justified. I think it’s up to season 5 on television but we are on season 3 on BlueRay.

Finally finished Breaking Bad! It’s was very difficult to avoid spoilers when that series finished up. Anytime someone talked about it – “Hey, did you see last night’s episode of Breaking Bad?” I would yell NO, haven’t seen it yet, not available from Netflix (plugging fingers in ears). Well…it had such a long wait list that we bought the end part of the series. 8 episodes – finally finished it. Then we sent it to our kids because they were in the same boat.

As for movies, Captain Phillips was well done and tense. I’m on the wait list to read the actual account by the real Captain Rich Phillips. Looking forward to Game of Thrones when we can get season three. Both Doug and I are caught up with the five books in the series so….c’mon George Martin! Get back to writing please.

Last but most very certainly not least - a new photo of Elizabeth. She is 10 days old in this photo.

Hope all is well in your world. Let me know what you're reading, eating, etc :-)

  1. Hi Tina!

I can't help it first I have to say, Oh my precious goodness!!! Elizabeth is simply beautifull!

I tried finding my strawberry plants under the blankets of snow today, it was finally bearable to go outside for more than three minutes, I removed as much snow as I could and they look just fine but no blooms, yet:) I've only planted peas so far but no shoots yet. I may need to bring them in from the garage.

Reading? Lots of garden books and back issues, lol...

Thank you so much for sharing, Tina...I'm looking forward to a few berries and lots and lots of pictures:)

  2. Thank you so much Louise. I think she's a living doll.
Really? Snow?! I didn't know strawberries could survive under snow. Gardening is a new thing for me so, always looking for advice :-)

  5. OK--hilariously funny story. My SIL had the "plumped up" peat pots planted and had the covered container sitting on the table. The littlest niece came home from school and thought they were brownies and took a big bite before she spit it out on the floor. My MIL's question was, "What the heck to your brownies look like?" Poor niece! We all got a huge laugh!
