Big bad storm

I had planned to write about something else besides a storm but Hurricane Michael changed my plans. At present it's projected to be a category 2 or 3 when it crosses directly over Tallahassee.  We are just west of that and at this moment, wondering if we should evacuate.

When Florence was headed toward the Carolinas I remember seeing photos of clogged roadways as people evacuated. That wouldn't be any fun for sure. Especially with an old dog. No way we would ever leave her behind or try and board her, I was amazed and horrified that some people don't take their animals. Aja is family.

Anyway, I will schedule this post and hope for the best and maybe have an update or food post soon.

The only other news is this Instant Pot arrived in the mail last Friday. I haven't tried it yet.
Doug fiddled with it and did some hard boiled eggs. I admit to being a bit scared of the steam vent. I'm fairly clumsy so, it's a valid concern. Hoping to bring you meal posts using this pot soon.

instant

That's all I have for today.

  1. Praying Michael simmers down and doesn't do much damage. I would never leave my animals either! Stay safe!

I've been thinking about getting an Instant Pot. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with yours.

  2. THank you, Vicki. Our state offices are closed now but I have to go out for a dental appointment later. Hoping the storm falls apart or weakens. I will eventually try the Instant Pot, but I bet I’ll be posting Doug’s creations for a while!

  3. Tina, we have 2 dogs and 3 cats that we would never leave, and it would be a struggle to leave the livestock behind! I am hoping, hoping that Michael weakens and causes no destruction. I feel so bad for you all, having the worry and stress of potential evacuation so often lately. I'll keep you and Doug and Florida in my prayers!

We've had an Instant Pot for a little over a year. I've never cooked with pressure before and was very intimidated by the steam. We use a hand towel over it whenever we have to quick release, but I saw a picture of someone using the end of a long spoon and that was very much a "duh" moment! Much safer. We're building our confidence and recipe repertoire. One definite recommendation is the Mississippi Pot Roast. So delicious and easy! SO.
    DELICIOUS.

  4. According to the news I read, your town was spared some of the worst of the hurricane, but you're probably without power. I'm thinking of you -- hope your home wasn't damaged and that you'll soon be back to normal!

  5. All, thank you so much for thinking of us. With the structure of our old house we weren’t sure it would stand to such high winds, so we evacuated. Now there will s curfew in our county of residence and we can’t return yet. Hoping the house is standing, very worried, but our governor has asked that we stay off roads to allow first responders to get to people. More later.

  8. I called the sheriffs office just now and our road is blocked by trees & powerlines, curfew still in effect. Our home is west of Tallahassee & new I-10, but not the portion of I-10 that’s currently closed. Sheriffs office said call tomorrow & see if we can get home. The Captain I spoke with said his house was only 3 blocks from the office car and it took almost 2 hours to negotiatie the downed trees.

Staying where we are for now. Probably ought to buy a generator. And charcoal
