Severe storms this week means lots of reading, watching and cooking

The weather this week has been awful.  I know some have the heavy snow storms and here in the south we are dealing with severe thunderstorms and tornado watches.  Sounds like a good week to stay inside.

Watching / This is library loot. We received season two of Unforgotten and the first season of Endeavour. Last night we started Unforgotten and it's as good as the first season for keeping you guessing.  Nicola Walker is becoming a favorite.

Thanks to all of you who made suggestions about the mystery/crime series from PBS.

Reading / Currently I am finishing up Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz.  This follows the Susan Ryeland character which starred in Magpie Murders. Also I'm going through a new cookbook from Williams Sonoma and that's been fun.  Especially trying new recipes and puttering around in the kitchen.

I have also been enjoying Sue's blog A Quiet Life in Suffolk which has daily musings about life in that corner of the world.  I have gotten many good ideas about books from this site and have added them to Goodreads.

Physical books lingering on the bookshelves here at home are the following....

Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher (historical fiction)

My Kindle is jammed pack with books so I'll have loads to choose from.
I hope everyone is having a good week!

  1. Thank you for the mention!
I like the look of the book about a Shetland Bookshop - added to my very long wish list!

    1. Sue, I have been lurking about your blog for a while now and as I enjoy it, I thought some others may want to visit you as well.
I'm looking forward to the Shetland book.

  2. Those are both great shows, Tina. We need to watch the final season of Endeavor, but it's been so long, I have no idea what was going on in the show where we left off. We just finished Magpie Murders and need to decide what to watch next. Maybe more of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I'm glad PBS is going to create another series with Moonflower Murders (which I haven't read), since we really enjoyed the first series.

I hope you enjoy Coming Home as much as I did! I'm sad that there won't be any new books by Pilcher, but I can re-read September and maybe give her son's books a try. I think I read one many years ago, and I have one in my stacks somewhere.

    1. Les, When it's been a while since we last saw a show and I need a recap I usually read the Wiki page or check the previous season out & rewatch the last episode. We only have one episode left on Unforgotten season 2! Wish we'd just binged it last night. I appreciate your series suggestions.

I love Coming Home - I read it decades ago so it would be a reread. September was good as well but nothing compared to Coming Home!

  3. We tried Magpie Murders this week, and we both liked it a lot. My husband likes ot watch mysteries and he prefers a short series, so this one is perfect.

I'm trying to read down my shelves, both real and virtual. I am focusing on reading something from my Kindle or my bookshelf rather than the shiny new book that just arrived for me.

    1. Deb, glad to hear you all enjoyed Magpie Murders. I just finished the second book in that series. Can't wait for the tv series.
I'm doing the same about reading. I have read some library books and now I am picking on off the shelves at home.

    1. Thanks, Erin! It's crazy being this cold in Florida but then again, we are in the northern part. Hope you enjoy Shetland.

  6. That does sound like a cozy week of reading and viewing when the weather made that a good choice. I'm checking out Sue's blog now.

  7. I hear ya about the storms. Tornado watches and warnings are the worst, but coming in a close second is possible ice storm, which is what WE are looking at for Tuesday. Nooooooo. Meanwhile, patches of snow are still on the ground and A LOT of it on my roof. Everyone else's roof that I can see from my house has NO snow!!! How is that possible? I guess our roof doesn't get much sun.

Mmmm Mediterranean food is always so...refreshing! Refreshingly delicious.

    1. Jinjer, I guess you are in a shady spot if your snow hasn't melted. We haven't had snow in a long time and even then it's just flurries. Nothing like I grew up with in Pennsylvania.

  8. As usual, I went down a rabbit hole as I read your post. First I had to check out My Quiet Life blog, then added it to my reading list. Then I had to check the books you mentioned. I've read An Isolated Incident, then added the others to my library TBR list. Then (at the library), oh look, that book looks good, oh a new author!!!
I loved Endeavor! Yesterday I went to the (virtual) library and started watching at Hoopla, I found a series London Kills that I really like.
Weather is grey and snowy/rainy here, but it's Sunday and we have nowhere to be, so I am thinking a pajama day with my knitting and laptop watching London Kills!

    1. Ha! I go down rabbit holes when I read blogs too. I really like Sue's site A Quiet Life and the everyday happenings in her corner of the world. Will look for London Kills. We love the crime dramas such as Unforgotten and Manhunt,

  9. We definitely have the same taste in books and series! I haven't been able to find Unforgotten as yet. Whitechapel season 1 is good, but the second season is much better as is the third. I so wish they had continued it.
I'm Irish, so I am partial to Banshees, but get what you are saying.

  10. The weather down here hasn't been the best either, until the last couple of days. Makes it easier to keep cleaning up from the storm. I just got a copy of Coming Home, too! Opted for the kindle version because it's so hefty in print. I've got it earmarked to read in December, since I enjoyed Winter Solstice so much over the holidays last year.

  11. Coming Home was the first audio book I ever listened to when they were still literally books on tape and I absolutely loved it. I have a copy but it's so massive it's uncomfortable to hold so I should get the audio! I have The Magpie Murders on my shelf and am thinking I'm going to pick it up soon. I had kind of forgotten about it but you've got me back interested in reading it. Unforgotten is one of my absolute favorites! I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

Welcome and thank you so much for visiting. If I don't answer you here I will get back to you on your blog. Also have had to switch to approving comments due to some SPAM lately. Alas...

It's been a good run...........
