Loki has a fit everytime the painters arrive so we take him out for errands quite a bit.
What?! I'm just doing my job !
Puzzle time / I hadn't played around with a puzzle in a while. When we thought we were going to put the house on the market I realized a card table set up would be messy. So, finally got this one out which I'd been saving. This one is called Best Classic Books. I've read some but not all and it makes me want to start a reading list project :-)
Reading / Erica Bauermeister's No Two Persons will go down as one of my favorites of the year. ( Click on book title link for review)
Rather than rehash the synopsis of this book I'll say I was completely captivated with by the individual stories. It's broken up in the way of short stories yet most of the chapters have a way of intertwining. Fifty people can read the same book yet you'll have differing opinions and takes on the story. Bauermeister's novel is about a book called Theo, the creation of of fictional author Alice Wein. We read about nine people from different walks of life and circumstances who end up with a copy of Theo.
This book is scheduled for publication May 2, 2023 by St. Martins Books. I was given an advanced readers copy by Netgalley.

The book-cover puzzle is very intriguing! I recognize some of the books, but can’t read the words on some of them. Looks like a fun project. We know someone whose house was all fixed up for sale and then was so nice she decided to stay. (Actually it was a complicated situation, but that’s the gist of it). Maybe your house will look so beautiful you won’t want to sell it.
ReplyDeletebest… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
My friend sold his home last year--and he mentioned that it was a shame they'd waited to fix everything up until it was to be sold. That they should have done that all along. It made me look around my house with a different perspective--finding things I'd upgrade if I had to sell....even though I have zero intentions of doing do. It gave me a list of projects--often very small projects, too--that I could tackle for my own living enjoyment.
DeleteI've completed that jigsaw puzzle myself! It was a gift from someone who knows me (and my love of puzzles AND books) well. I'd only read about half of them though. Huzzah for the progress you're making on spiffing up the place. I look forward to the before and afters!
ReplyDeleteBLD, thanks so much. That was a fun puzzle and yes, the house looks completely different now! Can't wait to get the gutters installed and have it all finished.
DeleteI can't wait to see the photos of your newly painted house! There's nothing like a fresh coat of paint for a change of pace. We recently had our bathroom painted from plain, old white to a mocha color ("Sensational Sand"). What a difference! Makes me wonder why we waited so long. I would love to do our bedroom, but I'm always paralyzed with indecision when it comes to choosing a color.
ReplyDeleteI've done puzzles with book covers like yours and always find them fun and somewhat easy.
Have you read Joy for Beginners by Bauermeister? I know The School of Essential Ingredients and The Lost Art of Mixing are two of her more popular novels, but I also loved Joy for Beginners (link here).
Les, it's definitely coming along. We had the bathrooms gutted and remodeled 2 years ago and it was a huge difference! HERE is the before after:

I don't know how to embed the hyperlink as you did.
Thanks for the suggestion on Joy for Beginners. Will check it from the library.
Awesome remodels/updates to your house! Here's how you embed a hyperlink, if you really want to know:
DeleteType this: link
So it should look like this link
Don't forget that second quotation mark after your hyperlink.
Thank you! I will try that out next time I want to share a link. :-)
DeleteArgh. My example wound up looking like an embedded link. If you really want to know, I can send you an email with the instructions. Feel free to delete this and my previous comment now that you've read them. Lol!
DeleteLes, I will google it, never thought about THAT as an instructional aid. Google.
DeleteBut email me anytime :-) tmculbertson AT gmail DOT com
Vicki, I have not read Johnny Got His Gun. No Two Persons is great. It comes out May 2nd.
ReplyDeletehappy reading and happy easter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sherry!
DeletePoor Loki but good for him for doing his job! Rover barks when the lawn crew is here or when people come to the door. He sounds quite intimidating because he is a really big dog so I'm glad they can't see him as he isn't intimidating looking at all! I love Erica Bauermeister and am adding this one to my list. The School of Essential Ingredients by her was one of the first audio books I ever listened to it and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteKatherine, he was a mess. Now the workmen aren't here and he can have the run of the yard but it's raining. Oh, haveing a dog with a good deep bark can discourage anyone from trying to coome inside. A good thing :-)
DeletePlease do look for Bauermeister's new book in May. they may still be giving away copies on Netgalley.
Very cool puzzle. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteLyn, thank yu. I might try and tackle some of the classics I never did read before!
DeleteLoki is adorable! I haven't don a puzzle in ages but I love the print of all the classic books. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra. I come and go with puzzle obsession but I love the ones with book covers. Just received a new one but I am waiting to start it until after a learning curve crochet project.
DeleteI have done a classics puzzle as well. It may be that same one or just has some of the same books. Hmm. I wonder why? Ha! Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteAnne, that would be funny, us doing the same puzzle.
DeleteThe puzzle is awesome. Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cindy!
DeleteI did three or four puzzles during the pandemic, but I haven't done any since then. I'd love to do the Classic Novels puzzle.
ReplyDelete(I don't know if you are interested, but I loved creating a list of fifty books to read in five years for the Classics Club. I've read some really good books. The club is at https://theclassicsclubblog.wordpress.com/)
I'm glad that your house changes are going so well (Loki might have a different opinion. lol)
Deb, the book puzzles are fun as I see some novels I'd like to read or have good memories of ones I have read. Thank you for the link for the Classic Club, that sounds interesting!
DeleteWhat a fun jigsaw! I like the sound of No Two Persons -- a book telling the story of a book.
ReplyDeleteJoy, jogsaws are so addictive, the book ones are fun. Hope you get a copy of No Two Persons when it comes out.
DeleteLoki is adorable. And that puzzle looks fun. I'm picking up a bestseller puzzle puzzle from a friend today.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stacy. I'd like to see the puzzle you get, best seller theme sounds great.
DeleteBauermeister is a new author to me, I will borrow one from the library and I put School of Essential Ingredients on my TBR list as I love to cook.
ReplyDeleteI echo the comments above about wishing you had done those projects before you decided to sell. It took us 10 years to redo our kitchen (and mainly because I could get a new dishwasher to fit!) and am so happy with it.
Jackie, the Essential Ingredients book was good, imo. Her new book is oout May 2, 2023. We have been talking about moving for years. Decades actually! So we have done what we needed to do with our house but never wanted to put serious money into it as we always thought we'd move.
DeleteFact is, the paint job was needed no matter what.
No Two Persons sounds like an original idea - I always like a creative approach to a story.....break out of the mold! Thanks for the visit Tina Hope you have a terrific week.
ReplyDeleteTerrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Terrie, it was a very creative approach to telling a story and weaving it into others.
DeleteI like the puzzle, lots of familiar titles on there.
ReplyDeleteI’m intrigued by No Two Persons after your comments.
Looking forward to seeing your new decor.
Wishing you a great reading week
Thank you, Shelleyrae. The puzzle has inspired me to start a new reading project.
DeleteSo glad to hear you are enjoying your renovations! Sure it will look gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWe did all our renovations with two old Labradors, they were quite good with the builders. But if we had Anna already, it would have been chaos! LOL!!
I love your puzzle and I love doing puzzles as well. Whenever I have time that is!!
Have a lovely week ahead and good luck with all you have planned!
Elza Reads
Hi Elza. I know you know what it's like for renovations. You had a quite a remodel this year! Puzzles are a nice way for me to relax, this one was fun. Thanks for your visit.
DeleteMy name will go on the list for No Two Persons as soon as the library adds it. I've loved several of Bauermeister's books! The puzzle looks like a lot of fun. I recently saw one that was all books with dogs on the cover... loved that one, too! Can't wait to see your house photos! Our good news was getting a new garage door on Friday :)
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, I think you'll like the book. I have ceratinly enjoyed her previous books and Les put me on to one I'd not heard of - Joy for Beginners.
DeleteOoo alabaster and a shiny black door sounds lovely! Can't wait to see before and after pics. I remember when my apartment complex painted all our doors bright red. Loved it. Still love it, but they could stand to be repainted by now.
ReplyDeleteLoki!!! So cute.
That's a great puzzle! Looks fun and would make me want to start a reading list project as well.
No Two Persons sounds like my cup of tea! Adding it to my TBR.
Jinjer, I can't wait to post about the drastic changes in appearance! Years ago we had a red door and it looked very nice. Then we had to replace the door and had an off white with a window in the top.
DeleteCan't wait to see the pics! I hope you had a nice Easter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Greg. Photos coming up!
DeleteWow that's a terrific puzzle - all those good books! I have not seen anything like it. Good luck with the house painting.
ReplyDeleteThat puzzle was fun! I get most of my puzzles through Amazon and I like the book cover themes.
