If you like a western drama, check out 1883

Loki  was due for a bath so we dropped him at the vet's office and decided to make a day of it.  Coffee at the Lucky Goat cafe, dropped a return at the UPS store, shopping for new sneakers at Shoe Station, out to Ashley Furniture to spend a good hour+ looking at kitchen sets and living room furniture, a splurge of 5 Guys burgers, grocery shopping at Publix and then home. Whew!  That's way more than we do on an average week.

The furniture shopping involved lots of measuring to see if a table or sofa would fit where we need it. 🛋 Lots of photes taken.  The burger was the first beef we've had in months and we felt it....so heavy. 😒 Staying home the rest of the week now :-)

Watching / 1883 is a very good series and has some heartbreaking moments. Well acted, beautiful scenery and one of the better western dramas I've seen. We tried watching the popular show Yellowstone with Kevin Costner a few years ago and just didn't like it.  Too soap-operay so we had reservations about this series.  It's apparently a prequel to Yellowstone. A+ in my opinion.

Reading / I finished book three, The Dying of the Year, in the DCI Tom Raven series. The first book had me hooked, the second has some unrealistic plot turns near the end and the third was good but....not as good as book one.  Hoping for good things with book four.

I have started Music for Prime Time by Jon Burlingame.  It's a fat book but I can renew it if need be.  Trying to find a shorter fiction book to read while I wait for Kate Morton's newest Homecoming.

Previous posts this week was a stroll around Tallahassee Nurseries

  1. Hmmm, we tried Yellowstone and didn't care for it, either. Might have to give 1883 a try, though!

    1. Les, we didn't care for Yellowstone at all. I thought I'd give the 1883 a try as it gets great ratings on IMBD. Loved watching how the pioneers start traveling towards Oregon together. Hope you like it.

  2. Sounds like you had a very busy day. My vet doesn't do dog grooming so I take Kaiyo to my friends house who is a groomer. I haven't watched Yellowstone or 1883, but my neice watched Tombstone (don't remember if I did or not) many years ago and it's still one of her favorites. Loki is so cute, thinking what are you doing? I don't like movies!

    1. Our vet doesn't do trimming type of groomng, just bath and nail trim. We were so tired that day! Loki does get funny expressions but he does like curling up with us if we watch something as he gets treats :-)

  3. You did make a day of it! I like to do everything in one day, too, but my husband insists on only doing one thing at a time. lol

I tried one episode of Yellowstone and I wasn't impressed. I may give 1883 a try on your recommendation.

Let's see what you think about Music for Prime Time...

    1. Deb, we usually spread out the errands and bring Loki along when possible but - we went for it that day! 1883 showed how people adapted, or didn’t, heading west into wilderness. We loved watching the narrator Elsa transform and live outside the prescribed norm for the time period.

  4. A 5 Guys splurge is always good. :) It's a lot though. I don't get it much since I'm trying to (mostly) avoid meat lol.

I thought about trying yellowstone but I don't know, I heard some of the same things.

    1. Greg, your body will thank you for eating healthier! We eat cheickne and lots of vegetarian meals so this was a splurge.

  5. You're flying through the Tom Raven series! I don't think that I could eat a whole hamburger, now. But a few bites sounds really appealing!

    1. Joy, with only three published books I thought I'd jump on it and stay caught up!

  6. I've heard great things about 1883. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I don't have the service that streams it, so I can't watch it, unfortunately.

    1. Mark, we don't have streaming so I checked it out of the library.

  7. I had heard that Yellowstone was like that so I didn't try it, but 1883 sounds more like something we would like. We will try it!

That day does sound like a very long one!

    1. Erin, many people like Yellowstone but it wasn't for us.

  8. I remember my coworkers told me the exact order I need to watch 1883 / Yellowstone in, but I don't remember what they said. Do you have an opinion? I think I finally have whatever channel those series are on because Roku had a channel deal. LOL

Being the [insert mental condition here] that I am, I'm not sure I could handle all that shopping for clothes and furniture in one day. Too many options, too many decisions!! However, I would enjoy all the other stops you made that day. lol

I can't imagine going months without beef. It's my favorite protein. lol This week I bought the first package of ground beef since I got my new fridge and I've made myself burgers three times this week and will probably have another one today! But don't worry. That much beef in a week is NOT normal for me. I just had a mad craving for it this week, for some reason, and I bought these really good Hawaiian Pretzel Buns and I just can't stop myself! lol

Did you end up ordering any furniture?

    1. I'm slow to answer, but I have emailed you :-) We watched 1883 and loved it. I am on the list at the library for 1923.
We did end up getting a dining table and chair set!

  9. Your day out sounds like a lot of fun, but also completely exhausting! Furniture shopping is stressful... hope you can find something that works. We splurged on a 5 Guys burger our first night back in CT - it's been months since we had one and it was delicious! I'm generally not big on westerns, but am planning to start reading Lonesome Dove this week. Have you read/watched it?

    1. JoAnn, it was waaaay more than we usually do in a day or even a week! Have not read Lonesome Dove but I worked with people who loved the series, both books and tv.

  10. Five Guys is definitely heavy but so yummy! I love their fries especially. I can't wait to see what you think of the new Kate Morton book! It sounds so good and I'm really looking forward to it.
By the way I'm not sure that the Jennifer Ryan book I posted about is by the same Jennifer Ryan that writes the WWII books (that I also love). This one may end up with way more romance so just be warned!

    1. Katherine, it's a treat every six momths or so but man....it did sit heavy as we are used to eating healthier. So far I am enjoying the Kate Morton book and thanks, I didn't know there were two authors by the name of jennifer Ryan. Still like the sound of the book you talked about.

  11. I developed a crush on Sam Elliot when I watched Roadhouse (with Patrick Swayze). I didn’t like Yellowstone either but I might give 1883 a try at your suggestion.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Shelleyrae, I didn't know Elliot was in Roadhouse. He looked odd without his mustache in a season of Justified! We very much enjoyed 1883 and can't imagine it without him in it.

  12. Working your way through a series is always a crap shoot - it's just not likely that they'll all be equally good. Even my fave Louise Penny Gamache series had a couple that didn't thrill me - but I keep reading and ultimately love the series!
    Have a terrific week!

    1. Terrie, I have not tried the Louise Penny series yet but I have had folks suggesting it as it's my kind of genre. So true about the series of books - not all are page turners.

    1. Sherry, I love Kate Morton and have all of her books. I hope I live long enough to read her next book as she doesn't crank them out - about every 5 years or so for one of her fat novels. Ha!

Welcome and thank you so much for visiting. If I don't answer you here I will get back to you on your blog. Also have had to switch to approving comments due to some SPAM lately. Alas...

It's been a good run...........
