Turkey Cobb Salad

Recently I mentioned we had a blast on our vacation in June. Celebrated 32 years of marriage, ate, drank and spent too much. No regrets. Actually I wish we were off now - riding somewhere to eat oysters and look at the Gulf waters. But we can't always do that....have to earn the cash to enjoy the fun times later on. Something to look forward to each week.

So one day last week I'm brushing my hair and the face looking back at me is....more. Why do I have more face now? Duh.....you can't live like there is no tomorrow and still expect to slide into your jeans without repercussions. {Life is unfair #FirstWorldProblems}

The immediate thought is I don't wanna talk about it, because who wants to tell people you gained weight on vacation (despite not going on a cruise - that happens when you cruise, right?) Embarrassing.
Yet, broadcasting this to my friends helps with my new-found incentive to cut back and take stock of my hedonistic intake of food and drink.

Fortunately, I have a great love of seafood, chicken, most vegetables and salads.

Behold the Turkey Cobb Salad - this was wonderful. It wouldn't give me heartburn to eat salads like this for lunch every. single. day. That won't happen but still...this is a great salad. Lettuce, tomato, green onions, bacon, turkey, boiled eggs and cheese.

It's not the most healthy salad but it's a move in the direction I want to travel.

Already I have taken control of the meal planning and have also cut back on the alcohol consumption. Yes, yes, I know cutting it out completing would be a big boost to reducing calories. But I like wine - so I am cutting back to one glass instead of us splitting the bottle. Wine isn't on the table every single night so this won't be that huge a sacrifice.

We are having roasted and grilled foods, loads more veggies, lots less bread and sometimes - no bread at all. Hoping to report a weight loss, a small one to start, I'm sure, but there it is. Welcome to healthy food posts. Pasta will make it's appearnce now and then but....reduced billing on the menu.

Linking up to Deb at Kahakai Kitchen for her Souper Sunday.
HERE is link to this week's Souper Sunday - join us!! I could use the encouragement.

    I had a salmon salad with lovely red onion today and really good tomatoes- didn't feel like I was trying to be good.

  4. Debra, I am still eating well and have cut back on alcohol. One short G&T for me last night instead of....uh...more.

  6. Sometimes--especially when it is hot, a big salad like this, full of goodies--some healthy, some not so much, is all that I want. ;-) It looks like it would totally hit the spot.

    Thanks for sharing it with Souper Sundays this week! ;-)
