Life / Two weeks ago Doug sold one of his telescopes so we made a short trip south for the handoff. It's always nice when you don't have to ship something large and heavy.
Doctor appointments seemed to be clustered into a 10 day period between the two of us. The usual physical, eye exam to keep check on Doug's eye after his torn retina in 2020 and a crazy misdiagnosis for me about my liver.
I had a call that my blood work came in and was told I had a history of cirrhosis and they needed me to see the doctor instead of the P.A. Naturally I panicked. Then I received an apology because they had misread my chart/ mixed me up with another patient. Whew! So here I am now, just enjoying my healthy liver :-) And a few glasses of Chablis :-)
Book 📚📚📚 Chat
Watched / A British mini series called
In the Dark. This show was adapted from books by Mark Billingham and gets quite gritty. Filmed in Manchester you get a dose of crime, drama and good acting. You'll loathe a few characters and have a nice twist near the end. Only four episodes.
Note: There is another show called In the Dark so if you look for this one look for one starring MyAnna Burring and Ben Batt.
We also tried
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and it wasn't great, in our opinion. You get Rocket's back story and it was, as expected, very sad. Will not purchase.
That's my roundup - I hope you are enjoying some good books and lovely weather!
Your reading buddy looks very comfy.
ReplyDeleteHarvee, he does make himself comfortable!
DeleteIt looks like In the Dark is streaming on BritBox -- but we just cancelled that because we have too many streaming services at the moment. I just requested the DVD from the library.
ReplyDeleteJoy, we liked that mini series, it's only four episodes and moved at a pretty good pace.
DeleteOh my goodness! What a thing to hear from a doctor's office! So glad that was just an awful mixup. I hope they made good on their mistake.
ReplyDeleteI envy you your wonderful reading buddy. I've never had a dog, but I've always secretly wanted to have one.
Deb, it's not the first time with this particular specialist so I have to question things. I admit to freaking out a bit initially!
DeleteWe love having a dog and we do love Loki but the love of our life was sweet Aja. I'm glad we can give this little guy a second chance for a good life after his crap beginning years.
OMG -- What a horrible mix up about health results. After the relief, I'd be angry. Enjoy your reading, with dog, this week!
ReplyDeleteAnne, I did initially freak out but I bet they change their practices on what to tell people over the phone!!
DeleteGeez, I would have been scared too. I'm glad it worked out in your favor. Your reading buddy looks very cozy. Have a great week 📚🌞💛
ReplyDeleteJody, thank you! We will be in reading quite a bit in this upcomong week with loads of rain.
DeleteHow worrisome to get that mistaken news about your liver! I would have panicked, too. We are also busy with various medical/dental appointments. All is fine, although I wish we had considered getting dental insurance for my husband after he retired... ugh. So expensive! But so are our vision exams. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'm eager to hear how you like The Downstairs Neighbor! I've been in a reading slump since I finished Tom Lake. I've read a mystery, but other than that, I've picked up and quit on three or four novels. They're either too light or just not holding my attention. Hopefully, my current read (Ocean State by Stewart O'Nan) will break the slump.
In the Dark looks like something we'd enjoy. I'll add it to my list. I just saw that Unforgotten has a fifth series coming out on PBS next weekend. I think we'll wait until all episodes have dropped, so we can binge on it rather than wait a week between each episode.
Have a good week, Tina. Hope that tropical storm doesn't cause you any problems!
Les, we have a tropical storm warning but if it keeps on the track they projected, we will be on the west side. Lots of rain for sure.
DeleteOur insurance is Medicare Advantage and recently we had $150 off a pair of glasses for Doug. I agree the dental costs are high and we pay for it straight out instead of having insurance. Our health insurance isn't too bad and covers quite a bit.Free physical every year, $20 for doctor appts. and $40 for specialists.
Right now I am reading The Light Pirate - perfect for the hurricane season! My nonfiction is good as well. I hope you get out of your slump. I just keep moving to different books until one suits my mood.
Hope you like unforgotten. I'm looking forward to season five when our library gets it next year. Do yourself a favor - Do Not read any spoilers for season 4!!! Powerful.
I have The Light Pirate in my stacks. I'll move it to my nightstand and maybe start it after my current read.
DeleteWe loved Unforgotten, and have watched all seasons, so I know what you're referring to. ;)
Rod has a very good supplemental insurance plan to go with his Medicare, but we chose not to add dental or vision. With his various health issues over the years, it has saved us thousands of dollars, so I shouldn't complain.
Les, great - I didn't want to give spoilers about Unforgotten. Had me tearing up at the end of that season.
DeleteInsurance is very much needed but even with it, so expensive to see doctors! I also don't understand why our dental is always separate from our health insurance. It's part of our body and you can develop other health issues from a bacterial infection with the gums, etc.!
Yikes! How scary about the health issue, but I'm glad it was just a mistake. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, thank you!!
DeleteOh my about the cirrhosis thing- that would definitely scare anybody! And I've heard that about Guardians 3. I've been meaning to watch it although I'm not looking forward to the sad bits. Have been watching Happy Valley too (a Brit show) and tha tgets dark.
ReplyDeleteGreg, Happy Valley does get dark. We ended up bailing on that one. Have you seen Unforgotten? That's a good series, imo.
DeleteYeah, the health scare was awful. I just want to know where I am health wise so i know if I'm here for a good time and not a long time or something else!
The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration by Jake Bittle sounds like a book that everyone should read, but that not many will actually do so. Obviously, since the book went to press all sorts of horrible events have made it even more relevant, such as the fires in Maui and the floods and heat waves in so many other places this summer.
ReplyDeleteI hope your doc gets a better phone person soon.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Mae, this is a good book. The first chapter is about Florida and talks about real life events, not conjecture of what might.
DeleteVicki, I remember you had a story about getting a bill for a procedure on your husband and they were very rude. Thanks for the good thoughts :-) I gave Loki a pet for you.
ReplyDeleteI always sigh and think "I wish I had a telescope" but then I remember that would require going outside, at night, when all the scary bugs are flying around.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe a similar thing happened with one of my friends and HER liver? They told her she needed an ultrasound on it ASAP and then after she went down there they realized their mistake. Nothing wrong with her liver. Nothing needed to be checked. What is going on in the liver world???? Glad yours was a case of mistaken identity as well.
Loki!!!! That book color coordinates nicely with hims! Such a cutie pie.
Jinjer, you would indeed need to consider the bugs especially around these parts!
DeleteThat's crazy your friend had a similar experience! I also had an ultrasound so they could be sure.
Loki says thank you very much :-)
Loki looks like a fun reading partner. I'm a dog nut ... with two Labs ...so I can relate. I hope the latest hurricane in the news doesn't hit your area. Oh what a worry for Tampa Bay. Gosh always something. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. I love dogs too and it's nice to have a snoring dog near you when you read. The storm is headed for Cedar Key and we are north of it so, hopefully we get rain and no damage. Thanks for asking!
DeleteOh that's great that it was a mistake but how crazy that they made a mistake like that. I'm glad it was corrected relatively quickly. I've added Fresh Water for Flowers to my TBR. It looks like a book I'd enjoy. Loki looks so comfortable as the reading buddy!
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I will always double check my results with This doctor from now on! Loki is indeed a good reading buddy :-)
DeleteI thought The Great Displacement was an excellent book that, unfortunately, gets more relevant every day! Never got to Fresh Water for Flowers this month, but will eventually. A phone call like that from the doctor's office would make me panic for sure... so glad it turned out to be a mistake! Thinking of you today and hoping Idalia isn't causing too many problems.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love that you use your dog as a book stand. That's great news about your liver, but it sucks for whoever they mixed you up with.
