As 2013 comes to a close I have to say, wow...this year flew by. Couldn't believe how fast December seemed to arrive and before you know it...it's just about all over.
As always, it has been another wonderful holiday spending time with Doug and over-eating and imbibing. Truth be told, I am sweeted out at this point with so many cookies, cakes, pies and candies in our office and at home.
I have zero willpower when it comes to resisting sweets. Well, had and yes, I say that in the past tense. Please - no more! Saving all my sugar calories for alcohol. Seriously....I was presented with a few lovely wines and the full intention is to plan dinners around the wine.
In the past we bought so many high end wines and were very spoiled. That tapered off and no, we aren't hitting "bum wines" but a Chateauneuf hasn't graced the table in a while.
French cooking fell to the wayside (why did that happen?) so next year I will be posting more from David Lebovitz, Patricia Wells and some of my Frenchie collection which takes up half a long shelf. Oo la la
So, we had eggnog and brandy, decorated a tree with goat ornaments, made Madelines unsuccessfully, ate mince pie and quiche and standing rib roast. A grilled rib roast is beyond sumptuous, a wonderful dining experience and something everyone should plan on at least once a year.
Here is is on the grill, having it's temperature checked.
Plated and ready to enjoy. Doesn't get any better than this.
Good company and good times.....always. I hope you and yours had a lovely holiday!
