Ham and Cheese Pinwheels
{A Quick snack or lunch}

Many of you have children at home getting into the swing of the school year and I'll bet some of those kids come home hungry, needing a snack or boost for studying.

See these little ham and cheese rolls? Deadly simple to put together and only 20 minutes in the oven. I have your attention, right?!

We don't have children at home but sometimes we have the need for a mid day snack on the weekends. It can actually substitute for a lunch, depending on how many you devour.

You will need a tube of refrigerated crescent rolls, thin slices of ham, cheese (shredded works) and maybe some Dijon mustard. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Roll those crescents out in one solid sheet. Pinch together any holes where they are meant to be pulled apart. Now spread a thin bit of Dijon mustard over the raw rectangle of dough. Top with thin slices of ham and cheese. Roll it as you would a jelly roll.

Ooops....I see a hole in this roll so now I know there will be cheese oozing out onto my baking sheet. Rats....

Slice the roll into 10 pieces and place on a baking sheet.

20 or so minutes later they are cooked. Not a great foodie shot but you get the idea.....

I used thicker ham one time and it was a fair disaster. Too much filling and so the dough would not stay closed. They tasted good but you seriously couldn't identify them as pinwheels.

As I said, easy to make and you can get a hungry person to stop baying for food while you prepare dinner. I remember having a hungry teenaged boy in the house so trust me, stock up on refrigerated crescents and ham!

I am sharing this with Beth Fish's Weekend Cooking Series.

  1. Kids or no kids I love these kinds of snacks/sandwiches! I can see where the thicker ham wouldn't work though I imagine it was pretty tasty. I'm pinning this to make for a quick meal one night. I might have double the recipe though as I have a feeling both my husband and my 17 year old son would make fast work of this!

  2. Hi Tina, my son would scarf these ham and cheese rolls up after school. I can make these ahead of time and he can reheat in the microwave. Thanks for the great idea!

  3. Katherine: we have these for lunch one day. Got home from shopping, and it was a really quick lunch to put together.

Velva: They are best fresh out of the oven but still good after microwaving them later, we love them!

  7. Beth: It's so handy when you don't have much time, I like the idea of snacking on the deck!

Jackie: I never thought of using shrimp, thanks for that idea.

  8. Ooooooh!!!! And I even have some crescent rolls in the fridge that need to be used. I'm going to try these for the girls and see how they go over. I'm always looking for more lunch ideas (or even just a fun and quick dinner).

  10. I love "instant croissant" pastry - Vin has 3 containers in the fridge (we had plans) and a hungry grandson visiting next week ... I shall point her in your direction xx

  11. Do you know you can bake a whole camembert doused in apricot jam (French preserves are GOOD) wrapped in instant croissant dough as a shareable main course?!? #yum

    1. I did not know this but it's valuable information. That would be amazing for sitting out on the patio with some wine.

  15. Mazzio's, a somewhat local chain pizza restaurant, makes pepperollis. I think I will try your recipe and try to duplicate them.
