June in South Georgia

I wanted to start off saying how sad I was to learn of Kim Bultman's death.  She wrote at the blog A Little Lunch and it was always a pleasure to hear from her and visit her blog. Too young to go.  Kim, you will be missed.

Well, it's now June and we have been in our RV since May 10th.  We aren't completely tired of it and have enough room but it lets us know we never want to a full time RV people.  Nope.  I like our house.  Last post I mentioned our awning broke during high winds just as Doug was about to retract it.  Seriously, he said "I think I'll pull the...." that's as far as he got and the awning arm ripped off and flew on top of the RV.

With that kick to the gut Doug thought it would be nice to rent one of the cottages for a few days.

Here is cottage, it's one of 13 available on the lake.

It's nice to sit on a screened porch and also nice not to hop around to different camp sites when our reservations are up.

I have a full kitchen in the cottage and I was thrilled to cook using the oven again!  Doug came through and saw me with pots simmering and a dish in the oven and said I looked so happy.

Behold roast chicken with tomatoes and onions, rice and field peas.

I made use of all of it!  The microwave, oven, stovetop....we brought in our own winegalsses and some utensils as it's not completely kitted out as you'd need. Bliss.

Today is my birthday so I am waiting to open these gifts my friend Mary Margaret sent.  They have been riding around with us until today so...later on I'll have a surprise. One thing I wanted was cheesecake and that is also for later on.  It's been a good day.

Loki guarding my gifts.

In this post The RV "Kitchen" Update I shared some of the meals we made last week.  Ought to have saved that until the In My Kitchen post here.

Sharing with Sherry's Pickings for In My Kitchen and Marg at The Intrepid Reader for Weekend Cooking.

  1. Pleasant idea to rent a cottage and have a change of kitchen scene from the RV. Good luck with the continuing remodel project -- I hope it completes as scheduled.

  2. happy belated birthday to you! The cottage idea sounds perfection. i'm not much of a camper these days tho hubby and I in our youth used to camp a lot! thanks for joining in with IMK. Loki is so cute. hope you got fab presents! So sad about Kim. way too young to die. such a lovely warm person even tho i only knew her thru blogging and emails. reminds us all to make the best of life now! keep well.

    1. Sherry, we both grew up camping with our parents and liked it. We have gone from tent during Tristan’s Cub Scout days, then bought a pop up, then travel trailer. This is the last “camping” vehicle we’ll have I imagine.
Loki is finally settling in. And I agree about Kim. So tragic.

  3. Birthday blessings! I cannot imagine being in a RV for even one night. The cottage is more my style ;). Enjoy the rest of your journey.

  4. Happy Birthday, Tina!! The cabin looks like such a cozy place, and I can imagine how much you're enjoying that big kitchen. Will the remodel be done later this month, or will it spill into July?

    1. JoAnn, thanks so much! We did like the cottage, mostly the screened porch, and we are headed home on the 18th. I don't think it will all be finsihed by then but very close!

  5. I've never rented a cabin on a lake, and I've never traveled in an RV, but both of these sound like great fun.

I'm sorry about the passing of Kim. Very sad.

    1. Deb, It was rather shocking to hear about Kim. She will be missed.
Thank you for the birthday wishes! Also, if you get a chance to rent a cabin on a lake I can recommend it.

  6. I know how you feel, I love being in my kitchen. John thinks I am so weird as I will stand at the counter and watch shows on my laptop as I putter around doing this and that. I even bought a stool thinking I would site on it, nope. He always says why don't I go and watch on the big TV in our bedroom and get comfortable!
Since I don't anticipate travelling out of country again this year we are talking about road trips. I should think about a cottage somewhere but at the moment he is in full golf mode (having lost a month when they were shut down) so I want him to enjoy that. Maybe in the fall.

    1. Jackie, I completely understand, I feel the same way puttering around in the kitchen. Maybe you can incorporate golf trips into your travels. There’s a country club about 20 miles from the state park and there’s a golf course there. That may actually make a cool trip looking for golf courses around the United States

  7. Happy Birthday Tina, and what a sweet little cottage on the lake to enjoy it in! We've never camped in an RV either, though have stayed in various cottages and cabins. I'm quite happy at home these days.

    1. Claudia, thank you so much for the birthday wishes. We are getting to be rather homebodies ourselves but the RV is an extension of that. Same bed, same kitchen and our own little space.

  8. Yikes!, regarding the awning. Having it rip off during high winds is always a concern. I learned a lot about myself (in the kitchen and out!) during our year of fulltime RV life volunteering. But I must admit, that cottage would steal my heart...

    1. Melynda, i’m not certain I could live in this RV for a full year as one month has been fine but I’m anxious to go home again. The loss of the awning really does suck because that was a source of our shade during part of the day. Thank you for the birthday wishes!

  9. Vicki, It’s so peaceful here except for the weekends when all the boats and jet skis come out! Even then I sure enjoy the bird song here.

  10. I like being able to cook on vacation, too! Home cooking is usually better-tasting and better for us than restaurant food. The cottage looks delightful. I didn't know Kim's blog, but that is very sad news.

    1. Laurie, it's ceratinly healthier to cook during vacation but I will admit to enjoying a take away pizza!

  12. Happy Birthday Tina! It's so nice that you had a change from the RV and the setting there looks peaceful and picturesque. There is something very nice about being in a well kitted out kitchen indeed. I'm also very sad to hear about the passing of Kim, may she rest in peace.

  14. I really thought I wanted to simplify and downsize - until we spent 6 months in a 600sq ft apartment! Nope! I'll take my space. And I had a full kitchen so I imagine this was just an absolute treat. Happy birthday! Loki looks very happy guarding your gifts.

  15. Happy belated birthday! I have never lived or spent much time in an RV but did live on a boat for almost a year. It's a similar size and situation. I enjoyed the compactness of everything and it put a curve ball on any shopping, made me think a lot before adding any new items. It got too crowded if I was anything other than minimalistic. Hope your remodel is completed soon. And, it was so sad about Kim. The blogging community will miss her. It seemed very sudden.

    1. Thak you, Liz. Living on a boat would have similar restrictions and I will be happy to get home and start unpacking things to put away in the kitchen. I'll bet boat living was fun though!

It's been a good run...........
