Sunday Salon - Welcome April...

A few new things at home this week.

Doug had his second cataract surgery done on Friday. Things are healing well. He may only need readers now and that's very cool.  After the torn retina and surgery for floaters this past year this was a very welcome surgery.

Plants / So far we have a cherry tomato and a tasty tomato plant in.  A couple of basil plants, chives and oregano.  The oregano is going to be relocated as it's not loving the full sum.

I don't know what this plant is called but I transplanted it from a cutting.  It has beautiful delicate flowers and is cold tolerant.

Books / I finished another Imogen Clark book called Postcards from a Stranger.  From the public library I picked up Red Sparrow for Cook the Books Club.  This combines food and reading so, I am on board with that!  I made Rogan Josh for the foodie part of that book - posted it HERE.

That's it for this week. Battling the pollen and hoping all the storms we have been getting will wash some of it away. I hope everyone is having a good week.

  1. I think the unidentified plant might be a sort of an aloe? Try to see if it has an oily substance if you break the leaves. Should be good for your skin!

Have a good week and happy reading.

    1. Thank you, Elza. I'll check that out. I broke a piece off another plant when we were out walking and it took very well.

  2. Good luck with the surgery recovery! I hope all goes well for him.

Your garden looks lovely. We still have little dustings of snow on ours. Spring is really slow this year.

  5. A torn retina sounds scary. Glad Doug's surgery went well!

Your mystery plant looks like a succulent of some sort. Maybe in the aloe family?

I hope you get some rain to wash the pollen away. We're getting ready to fly out of Seattle to Nashville on Wednesday evening. I'm hoping all the severe weather is over by the time we approach the airport (and that our flight isn't cancelled due to weather or striking pilots).

    1. Les, I hope your trip goes as planned. I've never been to Nashville but once we were trying to get Mark Knopfler tickets for a concert there. Sold out as we were looking at the seating chart!

  7. I hope Doug heals quickly! Eye surgery does not sound fun. I'm looking forward to planting some flowers this year. I can't plant anything until mid-May because we still have snow. :(

  8. You are doing a great job with your garden. We put in tomatoes and some other vegetables and herbs last week just before I left.

I hope the surgery on Doug results in quick healing.

The Cook the Books Club is so much fun.

  9. Was the torn retina and floaters surgery horrible? Hope he heals quickly, easily, and painlessly.

I've never had Rogan Josh! I do love the Pataks sauces but haven't seen that particular one. Will keep my eye out, or maybe order a jar. After I work my way through all the Target cooking sauces. lol

    1. Jinjer, he says it wasn't horrible but the bubble they inject for the floater surgery was uncomfortable. He's healing well from the cataract surgery.

You'll like the Rogan Josh if you have tried some of the other Pataks sauces. They are a good brand.

  10. I used to work for a large ophthalmology practice. I'm glad your husband's surgeries went well and I hope he is able to just use readers!

We had some nasty storms yesterday and more are in the forecast for today, although hopefully not quite as bad. I'm happy to see pollen washed away but I could skip the wind and the lightning.

    Enjoy your week!

    1. Jen, he's happy to have it behind him now and is trying to decide between progressives or plain readers. It changes so much, getting your vision back!

I hear you about the wind and lightening! It's been so stormy here.

  11. I am glad to hear that Doug is healing well after this surgery. I hope you are enjoying your reading this week and your allergies aren't acting up too much because of the pollen.

    1. LF - thank you so much. Doug is healing but it will take a month for the vision to sort itself out. Then he can get readers!
