As soon as I started reading Taste it was clear there would be much food inspiration. Tucci had a way of describing his childhood which evoked so many memories of my own. The benefits of growing up in an Italian neighborhood were immense and I loved every bit of it.
This book is humorous, engaging and sad in parts. Some of my book friends listened to this on audiobook and I can imagine it was very good hearing some of his stories in his own voice.
There are many recipes included in this book and you'll be hungry as you read about his foodie experiences.
I have enjoyed movies where Tucci had a starring role, particularly Big Night. I just bought a copy of Big Night after reading this memoir because I wanted to see to again.
So many wonderful recipes - here is the first one, classic carbonara . Click on this link for more recipes.

DeleteI must read Taste- I love Stanley Tucci, his story is so interesting.
ReplyDeleteDiane, he just seems like a very nice man too. Loved the book. Wish I could watch his tv show.

ReplyDeletebest... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks you Mae. I am enjoying reading about your trip west.
DeleteI love this book so much! Your carbonara looks amazing. I make a lot of Italian dishes, but have never made this. Definitely need to remedy that!
ReplyDeleteLes, this would be an easy one to prepare in the RV. I love it.
DeleteSounds like a delicious read.
ReplyDeleteMark, it kept my attention and there are loads of recipes.
DeleteI plan to participating in Cook the Books during May. I enjoyed Tucci's book and I enjoyed watching his series on Italian foods...he just seems like a person we would all love to be friends with. My favorite Tucci movie has to be Julie and Julia.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I would love to see his show and maybe one day our library will acquire it. I'd forgotten he was in Julie and Julia!
DeleteVicki, you'll find plenty of food inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about Cook the Books but this book sounds great. The family traditions and recipes sound wonderful to me.
ReplyDeleteMia, I particularly liked how he captured family conversations, that was a hoot.
DeleteI might have to watch this, I've heard so many good things about it.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how you liked it, Jackie. I'm ging to ask our library to get it when they order DVDs, Sometimes they get tv shows.
DeleteTina, we do have similar reading tastes! McDermid has written dozens, I think you will like her. We don't go to as many public places either.
ReplyDeleteWill try her out, Jackie. I love a series or finding an author wth lots of publications!
DeleteI adored the audio version of this book! The downside of listening is that I don't have a hard copy for the recipes. BUT, I bought a copy for my mother and hope to borrow it this summer. Your pasta looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteThanks, JoAnn. I didn;t think about that, the downside of hearing Tucci narrate means no recipes.
DeleteBook sounds good and wowee does that pasta look delicious!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jinjer! I love pasta and probably eat too much of it. This is a good book!
DeleteSo glad you enjoyed it! He is a treasure. I am going back and forth between the audiobook and e-book and I'm loving them both. Your carbonara looks decadent and so good!
ReplyDeleteDeb, I'm glad you selected this book, it was a fun read :-)
DeleteI've seen this book around! Sounds interesting.

Emily, thanks for visiting!
DeleteI enjoyed this book as well and immediately watched The Big Night and started watching his series.
ReplyDeleteWendy, we bought a copy of Big Night but we had seen it before. I love all the foodie movies :-)
DeleteI love a good Carbonara, and also enjoyed reading about his mother's cooking, how she's in the kitchen all day pretty much! You just know she loves it, as he says it's an art form.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the parts about his mother cooking. He was just born into a foodie loving family!
DeleteI'm envious you had the chance to grow up in an Italian neighborhood. The closest I came to that was the town my grandparents immigrated to in WVA where as it turns out most of the folks had come from the same place as our family and were related to us in some way. It was several hours drive away but so fun every time I visited.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great childhood and I can tell you, I was never hungry! When I went to my friend's homes I was always fed.
DeleteI really loved listening to the audio of this, but I did also borrow the book from the library so I could get the recipes!
ReplyDeleteMarg, I think I would like the audio if Tucci is reading it.
DeleteGood choice of dish! And also good idea to get Big Night: I loved the movie and enjoyed reading about its back story
