In My Kitchen for June

Not much new here but thought I'd link up to Sherry's In My Kitchen event. :-)

This time I will share the outside kitchen as we haven't acquired much for the house. Actually we are trying to reduce the inventory rather than accumulate more. As we get older it just makes sense.

This is the last time you'll see this Weber grill.  It is being replaced and the new one may feaure next month.

This is a new purchase - a collapsible strainer.  Perfect for the RV as it doesn't take up any room.  Folds down to a disc and may be stored sideways.

Here it is opened.  See the ridges inside?  You can open it fully for a huge vat of pasta or bump it out to a smaller strainer for berries.  I tried it at home first.  Obviously.

New to us - Domaine Delaporte Sancerre.

One of my favorite new recipes is a Tomato Tart with Olives and Gruyere. I know I posted this last week but it's too tasty not to share with this event :-)

That's it.  Nothing big happening. It's hot in north Florida so we are moving to more whites than red wines.  Sitting outside as weather permits, same with getting out in the RV for a while.  Smart thing would be to head far north from June through August....maybe next year.

I hope you all are well and happy!

  1. It's hot here too. With the humidity the "feels like" temp is 100°!

    1. Vicki, summer temps are coming earlier year. Right now we are longing for North Carolina & misty walks.

  3. Downsizing! A great idea that I can't begin to embrace. I went to the Potters' Guild Sale (it's what it sounds like: clay artists with a large collective studio, and they are very skilled and talented). So I had to move some plates and bowls from the main cupboards and stuff them into another place. All too crowded. And all wonderful to look at. Lucky you if you are resisting more stuff to stuff into the pantry.

Good luck with your deacquisition project. The new collapsible strainer looks very useful.

    1. Sherry, it's a pleasure to link up. The black olives would work well.

  5. We had the same grill when we first bought our RV. We wound up replacing it with a smaller Weber that is much lighter and easier to stow in the storage compartments. It actually heats up more efficiently than the larger one, so win-win!

  7. The tomato tart link doesn't work, but I found your post via your search feature. Looks and sounds delicious!

    That collapsible strainer is neat!

Our "too hot!!!" days are coming up this week and I am not ready.

  8. We had a few too hot days but lately it is perfect. I know our too hot days are coming. When we downsized I did a fabulous job decluttering and I continue to try. It is mainly cookbooks and kitchen gadgets that start to accumulate. But I intend to get rid of some cookbooks this week. There is also a box of glasses that we packed up last fall when we were having the bar built that we don't need.

    1. Jackie, we did the same during our remodel. We had to pack up the entire kitchen 9and bathes) and found glassware and more that we never used so....off to the charity shop. I do not like the hot days!!

  9. I could really go for that tomato tart- it looks delicious. After some really hot days, it is now cooler back into the low 70's from the near 90's. I love the idea of a collapsible strainer even at home because of storage. I have a collapsible laundry basket and it is so easy to story.

  10. We are trying to get rid of stuff too in anticipation of moving house, but we really aren't that great at it I have to say!

    1. Marg, it's a slower process for us but if we had a deadline it might make us move faster. It's been so hot I don't know why I don't go through things while I am stuck indoors.

  11. I am good at decluttering everywhere but the kitchen. LOL. I plan to make that tart just as soon as I can get good tomatoes -- another month or so.

    1. BFR, don't forget to use the plum tomatoes! I am bad about the kitchen decluttering as well.

  12. When we were in Memphis I only moved up the bare minimum of kitchen tools and I was shocked by just how little I actually needed. When we moved back I got rid of a ton of stuff. Love the collapsible strainer - definitely perfect for an RV and a strainer takes up a ridiculous amount of room.

    1. Katherine, I found the same was true when we started packing upn for the remodel. All sorts of things we didn't use on a regular basis. That strainer is availble atv Publix so your store might have it!

  13. We have the same Weber grill and Dave has just replaced the burners. I love the strainer. If my one ever broke I would replace it with a collapsible one for sure :)

Welcome and thank you so much for visiting. If I don't answer you here I will get back to you on your blog. Also have had to switch to approving comments due to some SPAM lately. Alas...

It's been a good run...........
