It's Friday already?! Short post about books, a maddening crochet project and Loki's sporty sweater.

Starting with my maddening crochet project I'll say I can handle single, double and triple chain stitches.  Behold one of the many blankets I have managed in the past.
 👇👇

What vexes me is a simple granny square.  It gets hot in Florida (it isn't hot now but eventually it's relentless heat).  This makes it uncomfortable to hold a blanket across your lap while you stitch.  So I thought granny squares would be the solution.  Make a load of them and stitch them all together once I have enough for a blanket. Ugh - I am watching Bella Coco videos and after a bit I get lost.  Wish me luck.  I can't have yarn best me!!

 📚  Books 📚

I finished the following and added the reviews to Goodreads.

Currently reading The Survivors by Jane Harper.

Loki's sweater! This is the only dog I have ever made wear a sweater.  He's our first short hair and gets so cold when the temps are low.  I think he looks dapper.  We had a different coat which was much easier to put on but he gained so much weight that it no longer fits.  Completely our fault for over feeding.

  1. I think your plan to put a lot of granny squares together is excellent. Good luck!

    1. Your dog sweater is lovely. I'd love to get one for my poor cold g-dog in Chicago.

I know that not everyone agrees, but I thought Klara and the Sun was wonderful.

  2. I never did learn to crochet, and I was very young when someone tried to teach me how to knit, so I admire your craft! That yarn is very pretty, and Loki's sweater looks cozy-warm! Lucky pup.

    1. Les, right now I am sticking with the straight line stitches. At least I can do that!

  3. I can't do anything craftsy or artsy. Loki looks adorable in his cute sweater! Those books sound good. I think Klara is on my list.

    1. Jinjer, Loki is spolied rotten but he doesn't like the sweater, at least when I'm trying to put it on him.

  4. I got some yarn for Christmas from a friend and am busily crocheting an afghan - like you I rock single, double, and triple and even a few other stitches, and have tried my hand at Tunisian and that's kind of fun. Loki's jacket is adorable! I've read all of the Harper books and am waiting for this one from the library - happy reading!

  5. Ishiguro’s books have all appealed to me. I have been reading them for a long time, and I really liked Klara. Good luck with the afghan… we have one or two that my mother-in-law made many years ago. She loved to make the squares from odd bits of yarn.

  6. I love Bella Coco, I started a shawl for my MIL and didn't realize that she didn't finish it, she told us to continue the pattern, but my brain doesn't think like that, sigh. So, I have it sitting there...hopefully, I will get brave and continue to try and finish it! However, with other projects I would rewind when I got stuck and rewatch to figure it out. Good luck!

  8. Loki looks so handsome in his sweater! Rover loves cold weather and would happily spend hours outside in the coldest weather we get. The problem is he doesn't like to be alone and my ability to sit outside in cold weather is not as strong as his! My sister-in-law crocheted a blanket for Will when he was born and I absolutely loved it because it had holes so he could use it when he was a baby without worrying about it getting over his face. She did tell me that it was a royal pain to do and she would NOT be making another one!

    1. Katherine, most of our dogs have loved the cold weather and like you, I have my limits of sitting out in the cold with them. I'm still plugging along with trying to learn a new way to crochet!

  9. Granny squares were all I ever learned. I suspect it helped to have my grandmother right next to me, though.

    1. Joy, that's how I learned the crocheting I do now - my grandmother visited and sat next to me. I do so much better with an in person session!

  10. Vicki, my mom had skills like yours too. She was amazing with the gardening skills. I bought Loki's sweater, I couldn't do that good a job!!

  12. My crochet skills are pretty mediocre. I have two squares done on a granny square blanket...but I have a hard time telling whether they'll stitch up all right in the end! I do have a crochet sloth I'm starting on soon...I'm hoping that one goes better. Good luck!

  13. I can knit, but am pretty bad at crochet. The granny squares sound like a good solution though. I've been on the fence about reading Klara and the Sun... guess I'm still there, lol.

    1. JoAnn, I have never tried knitting but think it might be worth a shot. I have so much yarn and I would love to make something besides blankets.
If I were recommending books to someone I wouldn't recommend Klara. I know many people love Ishiguro's writing but this is my second by him and I will give Remains of the Day a chance but, not my type of thing.

  14. Such a cute Christmas-y sweater.
I would t want to be weighted down with wool in my lap in summer either, your solution sounds like a good one.

Wishing you a great reading week
