Fajitas, alligators and books

We have been spending time at Lake Seminole this past week so I don't have any exciting events to share. Just hanging out, did a little reading, did Wordle everyday, stared at the lake and wildlife.   It was in the plan to make  a dessert from a Bon Appétit magazine but I was tired unmotivated once we got home and unpacked.  Next week for sure!

Here's the round up......

Watching / From the Earth to the Moon.  This is a HBO special we recently acquired and are enjoying it very much.  They use quite a bit of original footage but the re-enactments are well performed with many actors we recognized from other television series. Deke Slayton is played by Nick Searcy, an actor we loved in Justified.  You'll see Mark Harmon as Wally Schirra and Bryan Cranston as Buzz Aldrin just to name a few.

I don't know the name of this flowering plant so if someone does, please leave me a comment and let me know - I'd love to get some growing at home.

In the outside kitchen at Seminole State Park / Fajitas!  Doug used the griddle to cook the marinated ribeye strips with loads of onion, red and yellow bell peppers.  We used a premade fajita powder to season it up.

Served with fat tortillas, sour cream, rice and avocado.

Scenes from the camp / Loki hanging out far enough away from the lake that I didn't worry about the alligators.

It's probably hard to tell from this photo but this was a very large alligator.

Books / I had just received an advanced readers copy of The Lost English Girl and thought I'd see if I could get into it.  Couldn't put it down....I am familar with the author Julia Kelly and liked a previous book The Last Garden in England.  The Lost Girl book will be out in 2023. Review coming up.

My recent Kindle purchases are Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars by Col. Eileen Collins and Bread and Buttermilk by Helen Payton.

  3. You might enjoy a new app I got on my phone, called Picture This, for identifying plants. Those fajitas look soooo good! And thanks for the referral to Julia Kelly, I've got the Last Garden in England on reserve at the library.

  4. From the Earth to the Moon looks like something we'd enjoy, especially with that cast. (We loved Justified!). Those fajitas looks delicious. BTW, I made your Boursin Potato Soup last night and it was a huge hit! Yikes, we've never camped anywhere that has alligators. I would have been nervous!

  6. Liatris are easy to grow and come in that purple or white. They're long lasting in the garden and in arrangements (that's the florist in me coming out!). It's a bulb that should be readily available in the spring. Lost English Girl definitely sounds interesting.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. Jinjer, you just can't go in wading and believe me, I stay away from the shoreline! But I would definitely bring you a plate of fajitas :-)

  8. We have alligators around here, too, and we often have to keep one eye on them, especially if there are pets near.

I'm glad to hear that The Lost English Girl is unputdownable. Excellent!

    The fajitas look amazing.

    1. Deb, they do like to eat dogs if you aren't careful. We never let Loki near the water. I did like The English Girl, Julia Kelly rocks.

    1. Thanks, Mae. The fajitas were two dinners and when we got home I put the extra rice, leftover fajitas and a can of blcak beans in a skillet. Made a great lunch of leftovers.

  12. Vicki, I do believe Loki was saying that when I tried to get his photo. He always turns away so that time I was lucky! Fajitas can be messy - one evening we didn't put them in the tortilla and just ate them over rice.

  17. We loved From the Earth to the Moon! We watched it a number of years ago and loved it so much we ended up buying the series. I think the only episode I didn't really care for was the one on Apollo 13 but I could understand the change of focus. I loved the episode that focused on the wives and the rest of it was amazing as well. I'm so glad you discovered it! Yum on the fajitas! Fajitas are my favorite.

  18. That Moon TV series looks good. I'll look to see if we can get it here. I think I might need to add fajitas to my meal rotation (ha) ... we do beef & vegi tacos but maybe fajitas would be a nice change to that. Glad you had a nice trip.
