Books, crime series and foodie chat

Still stormy here but that means more reading and cooking time.  I made whole wheat bread this week and loads of vegetarian dishes. It's cost savings to make bread at home and it's so much better.   A few meals from last week are farro with roasted veggies, black bean enchiladas and a board lunch of mixed cheeses, figs, olives, etc.

Books / I finished Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz.  I think I liked Magpie Murders a bit more but I read that one years ago so, hard to remember.  Glad to see Atticus Pünd back as well as Susan Ryeland and Andreas.

Currently reading In Shetland by Tom Morton.  The writing is so engaging and while I planned to pass the book on after reading, not happening with this one.  It's nonfiction and I'm loving the style.  Plus it's mostly about books!

Watching / Season three of Unforgotten. We also tried two episodes of Endeavour.  We have a very good library locally and I'm thankful for that. Many people have given me good suggestions for more mystery/crime series and I thank you!  Hoping to get London Kills and Whitechapel after we are caught up with Unforgotten.

That's it from my neck of the woods.  Hope all is well in your corner of the world.

  3. I read Magpie Murders twice, and still barely remember a thing! Or was it The Word is Murder? haha. I didn't care for the TV version of MM.

  4. You've inspired me to bake some bread this weekend! It's been ages since I've made any. With so many books to read, I think I'll skip Moonflower Murders and just wait for the tv series. I've added London Kills to our watch list and we'll probably get to it after we finish Modus (season 2). Have a good weekend, Tina!

    1. Les, I use a bread machine to do the kneading and I take care of rising and finishing by hand. Time saver. After reading the Moonflower Murders I could see that the tv show may be more enjoyable. But...there are some personal things between Susan and Andreas I'm glad I didn't miss.
I have not heard of Modus, will check it out.

  5. I love bread so much we stopped baking it as we were putting on the pounds! But home baked bread beats the store bought every time.

    1. Harvee, that's the truth. Homemade is good and no preservatives. We have cut way back on the bread servings.

  7. I can't remember when I last bought bread. My husband is a huge fan of homemade bread. I've never made wheat, though. Maybe you will share your recipe.

In Shetland: Tales from the Last Bookshop looks like the sort of book I'd love. I've added it to my wishlist.

  9. Making bread here too, trying to perfect the perfect gluten free. Also try to find The Indian Doctor, so cute, sad and good.

    1. Jackie, I have not tried gluten free bread. Doug got off Prilosec for a while and not eating gluten helped with heartburn.

  10. Mmm homemade bread loaded with Kerry Gold Butter sounds so good right now. So do those black bean burritos! And I'm drooling over the board lunch. You always make the yummiest things! Hope you have a great week!

  11. Vicki, it's good so far but I'm going to have to put it aside as the new Jane Harper book came in at the library for me. I'd only have a small window to finihs both.

  13. Yummy that bread looks delish. I wish I could even make dough, it looks so comforting when I see people on tik tok doing it. As it was, I tried to make phillisbury biscuits from the cannister and burnt them, laughs.
